St. Louis DePuy Attune Knee Replacement Lawyer

A DePuy Attune Knee lawsuit claims the knee implant is defectively designed. Surgical glue will not properly hold the DePuy knee device to the tibia bone. The defective design causes early failure, severe pain, mobility loss and more. If you or a loved have received an Attune Knee replacement and have suffered injury, please call the attorneys at Goldblatt + Singer for a free consultation regarding a potential DePuy Attune Knee Lawsuit claim.

Attune Knee Failure Rates

The Attune Knee device has been failing at an unacceptably high rate. Failure occurs because this medical device was designed with too-smooth surface.  That smooth surface makes it difficult, or impossible, for medical glue to effectively hold an Attune Knee device to a tibia bone. Testing has shown the Attune Knee replacement to be 75% smoother than  previous knee-replacement prosthetics.

Negligent Design

Attune knee lawsuits claim negligent design. DePuy negligently designed the Attune knee by choosing to give it an ineffectually smooth metal surface. That smoothness keeps medical glue from sticking to it, preventing the knee replacement from remaining in place.

Because the cement-like material cannot adhere to the Attune Knee device, the knee breaks loose from the patient’s tibia bone, causing extreme pain and limited mobility. This failure often occurs within two years after surgery.  The device should last for at least 12 years, or even for 20 years.

Attune Knee Failure Signs

A total knee replacement is a major surgical procedure. The knee is the largest and hardest-working joint in the human body. An orthopedic surgeon must remove the damaged knee joint and replace it with a prosthetic joint — usually made from metal, ceramic, or plastic. The ends of the femur and the tibia must be removed and cut into a shape that can receive implants which copy the joint’s natural shape.

Orthopedic surgeons use a special type of adhesive cement to make a knee replacement stick or adhere to a patient’s natural bone. Failure of this adhesion process triggers the high, and early, failure rate of the DePuy Attune knee replacement system.

Several signs can point to the failure of an Attune Knee system including:

  • Infection
  • Instability
  • Pain
  • Mobility loss
  • Range of motion loss
  • Inflammation/swelling
  • Joint loosening
  • Nerve damage
  • Blood clots
  • Bone loss
  • Knee warmth or heat
